Early Careers FAQs General 01 01

1)When do applications open / close?

Our graduate and year placement opportunities for a start in 2026 will be open for applications from 8 September 2025 until 16 November 2025.

For  other early career opportunities and immediate-start graduate roles we may advertise throughout the year, please keep an eye on the specific adverts for details on their closing dates.

Note: We reserve the right to close applications in the event we receive a high volume of applications. We recommend you submit your application sooner, rather than waiting until the closing date deadline.

2) Can I apply for more than one graduate role?

We recommend you research into the different types of opportunities and  teams we offer, and  apply for the one you feel is the best fit for you. If you are interested in more than one role, feel free to apply for multiple positions, If you do,  please ensure you have a clear understanding of the different roles, the type of surveying work, and clients you may be working with.

Your preferences will be discussed during the MS Teams screening call or face to face interview if you are invited.

3) If I am unsuccessful, can I reapply?

If you have previously applied for a role and were unsuccessful, you are welcome to re-apply in the 2026 recruitment process. If you are unsuccessful in the 2026 recruitment cycle, we recommend waiting to re-apply for the 2027 intake.  This will give you time to gain additional skills and work experience that can strengthen your application  next time around.

4) What is your policy on visa sponsorship?

Our graduate programme is a permanent position and therefore Fisher German are only able to appoint to the gradate roles within the rules and obligations set out by the UK Immigration.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship as our training can take more than 2 years to complete to become a chartered surveyor.

5) Where are your roles based?

Our adverts will list the locations where our opportunities are based. The nature of the work means that you will need to be able to travel to client sites and other Fisher German offices.

6) Can I work remotely?

The nature of Fisher German’s work and a key aspect to your development as a graduate surveyor or planner means that being people facing is a critical part of our culture and building strong relationships with our clients. We expect graduates and placement students to be in the office full time, and to discuss with their manager locally if hybrid working is appropriate.

Note we do not offer remote working on any of our early career roles.

7) Can I decide when I want to start if I am offered?

Our early career opportunities are flexible on when you can start. Typically, our graduates and year placements will start any time from July to early/mid-September. If you are successful in obtaining a graduate role, we will be in touch with you to discuss a suitable start date for all parties.

8) What training can I expect when I join?

We hold an annual induction day for all our early careers cohort around September/October. It is a great opportunity to build those early connections and network with peers.

In addition, the Early Careers team host training events throughout the year, with 2 full-day training events; one in the spring and one in the summer.

9) How long is the graduate programme?

Everyone’s journey on the graduate programme will vary and so there is no definitive duration.

Depending on your degree subject specialism the graduate programme can be anything from 2 to 3 years. (This is dependent on if you already hold an RICS / RTPI accredited degree).

If you do not have an accredited degree, then Fisher German will sponsor a part time, 2-year Master's accredited RICS degree course. Once you have completed your Master's degree, we expect you to submit your, of APC in your 3rd year.

10) Will I have a permanent job at the end of the graduate programme ?

Our graduate roles are permanent. Upon passing your APC and becoming chartered your job title will automatically be promoted from Graduate Surveyor to Surveyor. For our Commercial rotational programme, you may be placed into a team that has a vacancy for a qualified surveyor.

Year placements, however, are fixed term placements which are up to 12 months in duration.

 11) What can I expect to be doing when I join?

Our graduate and placement roles are real jobs and so you will be given tasks from day one and working with clients. This experience and exposure will help you prepare your diary for the Assessment of Professional Competence to become chartered. So, you won’t be left with all the admin tasks to complete!

12) Do you offer unpaid work experience / work shadowing

We do not currently offer formalised unpaid work experience or work shadowing placements due to the large volume of requests we receive. We also recognise that work experience can be hard to find for those without the necessary industry contacts / connections.

Therefore, we have formalised work experience/opportunity to learn more about surveying via the below options:

  1. Virtual insight programme – a 3-day online course to learn more about surveying specifically aimed at those studying non-cognate degrees. These sessions usually run int he Autumn and Sprong each year. Please check out our Virtual Insights programme pages to find out more.
  2. Summer Internships – These opportunities open in Spring 2026 for our next recruitment for summer 2026 internships.
